Howard Track & Field Opens Indoor Season With A Pair of Meets

WASHINGTON (December 3, 2021) – Howard University men’s and women’s track & field teams are set to open the indoor season with a pair of meets Saturday (Dec. 4).

HU goes to nearby Annapolis, Md., for the Navy Invitational, hosted by the Navy Midshipmen, and up north to Cambridge, Mass., for the Ivy & HBCU Challenge, hosted by Harvard.

SEASON OUTLOOK

Director of Track & Field David Oliver and the Bison are competing in the indoor season for the first time in nearly two years.

The last time HU took part during the winter season with the 2020 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships in Landover, Md. During that event, the Bison women placed fifth while the Howard men finished seventh overall.

Entering the year, HU is led by Kameron Davis (Miami), Jessika Gbai (Philadelphia), Ozioma Scott (Guyana, Georgetown) and Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.).

 

MEET PREVIEWS

IVY & HBCU CHALLENGE

Like Howard, the Harvard track & field program will be competing for the first time in almost two years. The Crimson will welcome Dartmouth, Hampton and Howard to the Gordon Indoor Track.

 

NAVY INVITATIONAL

The Navy track and field team will host the meet at Wesley A. Brown Field House, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the field events, followed by the running events starting at 11:15 a.m. The meet is open to the public and admission is free.

The participating teams include Navy, Howard, James Madison, Morgan State, Mount St. Mary’s, UMBC, William & Mary.

 

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Howard returns after the New Year for the Wagner Invitational (Jan. 7), hosted by Wagner College.
