Miles Simon makes NCAA cut

BALTIMORE (December 4, 2021) – Howard University men’s swimming & diving team closed out the first half of its season with the H2ounds Invitational, hosted by Loyola (Md.), where eight school records were shattered in the two-day event on ESPN+.

“This was an incredible weekend for our program,” said Howard Director of Swimming & Diving Nicholas Askew. “Our young men and women put in the hard work and it showed in front of a national audience. I’m extremely proud and can’t wait for the New Year.”

Junior Miles Simon (Atlanta) highlighted the weekend with a record-setting performance in the 50 Free. The Atlanta native posted a 19.95 mark while making the NCAA cut by .01. He also set new school benchmarks in the 100 Back (49.05) and 100 Breast (56.36).

Simon, alongside fellow classmate Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago) and newcomers Brenton Cooper (Baton Rouge, La.) and Darin Johnson (Atascocita, Texas), competed in the 400 Medley Relay where they broke the program mark with a 3:20.57 time.

Beckles, Simon, junior Arion Solomon (Fairburn, Ga.) and sophomore Spencer Miles (Lynchburg, Va.) reset the school record in the 400 Free Relay, registering at 3:02.86.
