BRONCOS SECURE 3-SET SWEEP AGAINST WINSTON-SALEM STATE

WINSTON-SALEM, NC —The Fayetteville State volleyball team needed just three sets (25-21, 25-15, and 25-12) to knock off the Winston-Salem Rams Thursday on the road at Whitaker Gymnasium in Winston-Salem, NC.

The win boosted the Broncos’ record to 2-7 overall and 1-0 in CIAA play. The Rams drop to 2-3 and 0-1 with the conference opener.

Kailyn Williams finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Broncos offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .6. got 16 digs from Jordan Johnson to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Broncos opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-21. With an intense crowd, Winston-Salem State took an early 5-2 lead before the Broncos would tie things up at 5-5. Fayetteville State would never trail by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 16-15 in a set that featured seven ties and five lead changes. Fayetteville State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set by Casandra Watson.

SET 2 | Fayetteville State built on a set-one win by securing a 25-15 victory in set two. The Broncos never trailed by more than two points (8-10) and grabbed the advantage for good at 11-10 in a set that showcased two lead changes before Fayetteville State took over the lead.

SET 3 | Fayetteville State closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after taking the third set. The Broncos grabbed control of the set early when the score was 3-2 and never trailed to win 25-12. Fayetteville State led by 13 points at 24-11 before finishing off the stanza. The Fayetteville State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
