Howard Women’s Tennis Goes Unbeaten

WASHINGTON (April 10, 2022) – Howard University women’s tennis team defeated Delaware State (DSU), 5-2, at Banneker Recreation Center and improved to 9-4 (6-0 MEAC) on the season.

With the win, HU goes unbeaten in league play for the first time since 2015.

Despite rookies Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) knocking off DSU’s Daria Julia and Iris Leder, 7-5, Howard trailed in the match due to the Lady Hornets taking two-out-of-three in doubles competition.

HU rebounded in singles play, winning five-out-of-six contests.

Butcher, Grayson and juniors Alexandra Blackwell (Austin, Texas), Hana El Sherif (Cairo, Egypt) and Yemisi Ifederu (London, England) all won their respective matches in straight sets.

On April 28-30, the Bison travel to Cary, N.C., for the Mid-Easten Athletic Conference Championships.
