Jackson State Women’s Basketball Lands Former 5-Star Recruit

Jackson State women’s basketball coach Tomekia Reed bolstered her roster when she landed Houston center Daphane White, a former five-star recruit, as a transfer on Saturday.

White, a Mississippi native who played at St. Martin, began her college career at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College after signing with Mississippi State out of high school.

White, who has two years of eligibility remaining, left the Bulldogs before the team’s first practice her freshman year.

“IM BACKKKKKKK,” White wrote in a social media post announcing her decision.

At Houston, the 6-foot-5 post player averaged 4.5 points and 4.1 rebounds.

White was a five-star prospect in 2018, according to ESPN’s HoopGurlz rankings. As a senior, she finished with 69 points, 19 rebounds and seven blocks in a game against Pass Christian.

White adds another option down low for JSU, which is led by returning senior Ameshya Williams on the block.

In addition to the post depth, Jackson State also returns Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Year Dayzsha Rogan in the backcourt and freshman guard Se’Quoia Allmond,  the highest-rated women’s basketball prospect to ever sign to a Historically Black College and University out of high school. Allmond is a four-star prospect and ranked No. 70 for the class of 2021s.

Jackson State has won the past two SWAC women’s basketball regular-season championships and the conference tournament last season, reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008.
