Lane pounds Clark Atlanta, 38-6

JACKSON, Tenn. | The Lane College football team opened conference play on Saturday when they hosted cross-divisional opponent Clark Atlanta at Liberty Tech Field.

After struggling to move the ball in dreary conditions last week, the Dragons benefited from a beautiful day and a well-manicured field to torch the Panthers defense for 474 yards on just 57 offensive plays (8.3 yards per play)

Senior quarterback Michael Huntley was efficient out of the gate, leading Lane on scoring drives in their first two possessions. Huntley finished the game 21-of-29 for 317 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Virgil Young was Huntley’s favorite target on the day. Young caught six passes for 126 yards and a touchdown.

Keith Johnson had four catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns.

The ground game gashed the CAU defense all game, finishing with 155 yards on 27 carries. Kylan Duhe led the way with six carries for 56 yards (9.3 yards per carry).

Tyshun Gaiter led a stingy defense that allowed just six points and 292 yards of offense on 71 plays. Gaiter had eight tackles and two interceptions.

Mackenzie Howard had a game-high nine tackles and Andrew Farmer once again lived in the opposing team’s backfield, registering 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.

The Dragons will again play at Liberty Tech next Saturday when they take on Edward Waters University. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM.
