Dragons down Freed-Hardeman and Crowley’s Ridge

JACKSON, Tenn. | After picking up three wins over the weekend in the MUW Owls Invitational, the Dragons continued the winning with two more victories on Tuesday night at JF Lane Gymnasium.

Also on Tuesday, the conference office announced that freshman Kyra Gaston was named SIAC Player of the Week.

Gaston helped the Dragons to three wins during the week with 68 total points on 57 kills and a .440 hitting percentage. The Detroit native added eight blocks and three aces.

Lane made quick work of the visitors in game one, downing the Pioneers in three sets (25-12, 25-19, 25-11)

Bre’elle Hawkins led the way with 10 kills. Maia Thompson and Gaston both added 7.5 points on six kills each.

Jazmyne Jones registered 30 assists in the win.

The second game of the night saw the Dragons take on the Lions of Freed-Hardeman. The hosts won the first set before dropping set number two. Lane fought back in set three, trailing 22-19 before storming back to win the set 26-24. The Dragons closed out the game in set four, 25-19.

Hawkins and Gaston both scored 19 points and Anayah Goss added 10.5 points.

Jones ended with 28 assists and Dezarai Stewart added 11 assists.

The Dragons will open conference play this weekend when they travel to South Carolina for matchups with Benedict and Allen.
