SMYRNA, Del., –Howard University placed five runners in the top 10 on Saturday to win the 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women’s cross country championship at the Delaware State Outreach & Research Center.
The Bison won their first title since 2005 and eighth overall.
Wesley Stephens was named the meet’s Outstanding Coach. Norfolk State’s Mercyline Kimayio was named Outstanding Performer after winning the individual title with a 5K time of 18:02.3 – the MEAC’s fastest time this season.
Melanie White paced the Bison, finishing third with an 18:48.6. Camille Egbula (19:05.0) and Breanna McDonald (19:13.2) were fifth and sixth, respectively, while Joslyn Crosby was eighth with a 19:27.8 and Jordyn Miller finished 10th after running a 19:35.5.
Norfolk State had three runners in the top five; Tynniesia Wilson came in second after running an 18:44.4, while Kara Grant was fourth with an 18:57.8.
Maria Garcia Rabago paced Delaware State, running a 19:24.4 to finish seventh.
North Carolina Central’s Victoria Swepson was ninth, running a 19:34.2.
Howard finished with 32 points as a team. Norfolk State had 62 points to finish second, while Delaware State came in third with 69 points.
The top 15 finishers were named All-MEAC.
