Fayetteville State Ties for Fourth at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational

Fayetteville State University opened its outdoor track & field season at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. The Broncos tied for fourth with conference foe Winston-Salem State. The two CIAA schools were the highest Division II ranked teams.

Mya Johnson had one the biggest performances for the Broncos with a third-place finish over 48 runners in the 100-meter hurdles finals with a time of 14.37 seconds. She won her preliminary heat in 14.69 seconds.

Johnson also led off the third-place 4×400-meter relay squad that ran a time of 3:53.12 behind G.W. Express and host Coastal Carolina. Joining Mya on the relay were Queen Burnett, Teanna Bell, and Shanae Ingram.

Burnett ran a total of four races at the meet. She qualified for the finals of the 100-meters, second in her heat with a time of 12.28 seconds. Queen finished eighth in the finals in a 3.2 wind-aided time of 12.09 seconds. Before her day would be complete, Queen Burnett ran the second leg on both relay teams. In the 4×100-meter, she helped the squad to a fifth-place finish in 48.94 seconds.

Kristina Moore started sprint relay with the baton before giving it to Burnett. Bianca Belfon ran the back curve while Michaelia Jonas was the anchor.

Belfon had the best finish from the field events for the Broncos with a fifth-place score in the triple jump with a leap of 11.85 meters (38’10.5″).

Three other Broncos finished with top-ten performances.

Shanae Ingram finished fourth in the collegiate 800 meters in 2:23.35. Sierra Beasley and Brenda Cheboi ran the open 800 where they finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Beasley ran 2:30.43 while Cheboi was two seconds behind at 2:32.93.
